Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!

Halloween is a great time for candy snacking and taking about the weather if you are a home grown Winnipegger.  We all remember what the weather was like at various years of growing up on Halloween Day.  In Manitoba, that could mean its anywhere from balmy warm where golfers at still out on the courses to two feet of snow on the ground in minus temperatures.

Halloween is also a time of year to think about UNICEF.  I carried around the UNICEF box at Halloween as a child.  Later in life, I learned more about the work UNICEF does and volunteered my time, eventually acting as the Chairperson for UNICEF Canada.  The little ones don’t take UNICEF boxes out when trick or treating any more, but schools across Canada hold fundraisers to help less fortunate children around the world.  Remember to help these young fundraisers out with a donation or go to  for other ways to make donations.

To get back to the Halloween candy snacking…..I’m often asked: “Can I write off all of my families dental expenses as a business expense?”  The answer is a resounding YES if you are signed up with Corporate Care.  This includes all kinds of dental expenses such as braces, fillings, cleanings, x-rays, etc.  It doesn’t cost anything to sign up with Corporate Care.  We charge a 5% administration fee when you use the program; the lowest fees in the country.  The tax benefits are fantastic.  For most small businesses the monthly premiums for group benefit plans are too expensive and too restrictive.  Corporate Care is a Private Health Services Plan that gives you an tax-friendly alternative.  Check out our web-site at for more information.

I guess the little ones will be bundled up a bit this Halloween so drive careful.
